In Portugal qualifications in the professions are obtainable:

  • In the school system (by Education Cycles),
  • Through the apprenticeship system,
  • In the form of continuing education.

The basic path of achieving qualifications is the school path in which new levels of education are achieved and the professional competences are confirmed on the basis of practical exams:

  • The stage of general education, which at the date of preparation of the study, includes Cycle 1 Cycle 2 Cycle 3 described as Primary Education,
  • Stage of general education in the form of higher secondary school,
  • Stage of vocational education which includes vocational

Stage of general education ends up with obtaining a certificate necessary for further education. Each student is required to take the exam to obtain the certificate and continue education in high school.

Qualifications in the profession of car mechanic are obtained:

  • through an exam conducted after 12th cycle by an external

Qualifications:

  1. Maintenance and diagnostics of malfunctions,
  2. Repairs of different mechanical systems of motor vehicles in accordance with the parameters and requirements defined by the manufacturer and with the safety and environment protection regulations.

Documents confirming qualifications in the profession of car mechanic are high school diploma and a certificate confirming completion of the professional training and  qualifications in the profession of car mechanic.

Occupational health and safety regulations

  1. Observes the rules and procedures of occupational health and safety and environment protection during the professional activity, takes responsibility for performing his/hers activities.
  2. Observes the laws and regulations regarding electrical installations in terms of performance of his/hers professional activity.
  3. Organizes relevant workstations enabling proper performance of career.

Commencement and  conduct of business activity

  1. Knows the technical documentation regarding business activity registration.
  2. Knows the regulations regarding conduct of business activity and manages to apply them. Adjusts to new technical technologies, organizes workstations enabling proper performance of it.

Vocationally oriented foreign language

  1. Uses English language or other foreign language corresponding to performance of tasks.
  2. Uses specific English technical vocabulary

Interaction with other members of a team to perform commonly defined tasks while conducting business activity; Observes laws and legal regulations regarding performance of his/hers business activity; manages to adjust to new technical technologies, organizes workstations enabling proper performance of it; takes responsibility for activities within his/hers own tasks; behaves assertively within relations with others; cooperates in achieving designated objectives.
